Covington partner Anita Stork spoke at the 2016 Benchmark Women in Litigation Forum in Palo Alto, where she was featured on a panel, “Smashing the Glass Ceiling.” Partner Christine Haskett also attended along with more than 40 other women, the vast majority of them in-house counsel. Anita was invited to speak as one of Benchmark’s U.S. Top 250 Women in Litigation. The Benchmark Women in Litigation Forum brings together top, senior women in the legal profession, both in-house and at law firms, to network and discuss their professional experiences as litigators, and to share strategies and trends.
The glass ceiling panel generated a lively discussion. At the outset, the panelists commented on how gender has impacted their careers, and then fielded questions from the audience. The panel quickly evolved into an interactive dialogue between the audience and the panelists. Among the topics: the importance of a management committed to diversity and strategies for succeeding. Anita explained, “The importance of a strong mentor cannot be overstated. And certainly, a mentor can be a male or a female.”
Anita has been partner at Covington for 10 years, and prior to that was a partner at a major law firm for 8 years; she brings substantial expertise and skill to Covington’s Antitrust litigation practice.
“The attendance at the event demonstrated event how many female lawyers have advanced in law firms and in-house positions. And the discussion confirmed that there is much progress yet to be made.“
