Navigating the Tariffs and Trade Landscape: Considerations for the Life Sciences Industry

- 2:00 PM EST
President Trump has operationalized his trade agenda by announcing substantial tariffs during his first months in office. These include country-specific measures targeting Mexico, Canada, and China; global reciprocal tariffs; as well as new or expanded tariffs impacting the auto, steel, and aluminum sectors. The President has also threatened a variety of other tariff and trade-related measures – including potential sector-specific tariffs on pharmaceutical products and semiconductors. These various trade actions have the potential to significantly impact businesses that export to and/or have manufacturing operations in the United States, including those operating in the life sciences industry.
Trump’s “America First Trade Policy,” announced on his first day in office, has indicated an interest in further deploying a broad swath of trade authorities. The Trump Administration has also made clear its ambitions to reshape U.S. economic and strategic assets on the world stage, and to use trade as a tool to further both economic and non-economic objectives.
