Dan Shallman and Doug Sprague's commentary appeared in The Recorder in an article about Ismail Ramsey's appointment as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of California and the potential for turf wars between the Bay Area and outside districts.
Doug said, "I think that he’s a very experienced defense attorney and he was a prosecutor before that, and the Northern District has had some high-profile, successful prosecutions in the recent past that they could turn to, if and when they get into these turf battles, which are not uncommon. I think he’d be good at advocating for his office in that respect.”
Dan said, “I think every U.S. attorney comes in wanting to ensure that, in cases where the majority of the conduct is occurring in their district, that they handle those cases.”
“If you are getting into this turf battle, you want to be able to explain what your plan was and how you’ve been executing on that, so that you should keep the case if you’re the one who started it,” Doug added.
