Yaron Dori’s commentary was included in a Law.com article detailing how in house counsel are increasingly turning to outside counsel regarding the adoption of new technologies like generative AI, calling upon outside counsel to help in house counsel navigate their roles as risk-mitigators.
Commenting on this trend, Yaron said “if there’s a specific question from say, marketing, they may go to legal. But if they’re not aware of legal considerations, they may just move forward. We’re talking [to clients] about the importance of getting the word out internally and across departments.”
Yaron added, “Some legal departments in highly regulated industries might have a better understanding of when new or novel technologies emerge, some thinking needs to be done and some policies need to be put in place. Some cultures may be less centrally controlled or more entrepreneurial, and there may not be as much awareness. In those environments, there might be a greater need for a law department to assert itself. As to how they assert themselves, often they’ll go to outside counsel to navigate that.”
