Covington Honored By Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus

SAN FRANCISCO — The Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus (ALC) will be recognizing Covington as the 2016 Pro Bono honoree at its 44th Anniversary dinner on May 5th. The firm is being honored for its work on Omar v. Kerry, a case involving Mosed Shaye Omar, a U.S. citizen whose passport was illegally revoked by the U.S. Embassy in Yemen. The Covington team representing Mr. Omar was led by Wendy Feng, seconded by Joanne Sum-Ping, and included Doug Sprague, Lauren Pedley, Andrew Law and Matthew Verdin.

“It has been a great privilege to partner with Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Asian Law Caucus on this important case, and we are honored that they have chosen Covington as this year’s Pro Bono Honoree,” stated Wendy Feng.

Founded in 1972, Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Asian Law Caucus is the nation’s first legal and civil rights organization serving the low-income Asian Pacific American communities. Advancing Justice - ALC focuses on housing rights, immigration and immigrants’ rights, labor and employment issues, student advocacy (ASPIRE), civil rights and hate violence, national security, and criminal justice reform. As a founding affiliate of Asian Americans Advancing Justice, the organization also helps to set national policies in affirmative action, voting rights, Census and language rights.
