WASHINGTON—The National Veterans Legal Services Program has presented Covington with its “Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award.” The award recognizes the firm’s extraordinary legal service provided to veterans.
For over 14 years, Covington has partnered with NVLSP, working to address systemic and individual issues that affect the lives of veterans and their families. Covington has partnered with NVLSP on its “Lawyers Serving Warriors” program and was one of the first law firms to accept pro bono cases from NVLSP. Over the years, Covington has represented more than 150 veterans and active duty service members, including representation before VA regional offices, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and various military review boards. In 2016, Covington co-sponsored an NVLSP Equal Justice Works fellowship that focused on providing legal services to disabled veterans whose appeal of an initial disability denial had been systematically delayed for years and helped improve the VA appellate process that was currently in place.
NVLSP has worked since 1980 to ensure that the United States government delivers the benefits to which the nation's 22 million veterans and active duty personnel are entitled.
