WASHINGTON—Global Data Review named Covington’s Libbie Canter to the second edition of its “40 Under 40” list recognizing the 40 individuals who represent the best and the brightest of the data law bar around the world.
Ms. Canter represents a wide variety of multinational companies on privacy, cyber security, and technology transaction issues, including helping clients with complex privacy challenges and the development of governance frameworks and processes to comply with global privacy laws. She routinely supports clients on their efforts to launch new products and services involving emerging technologies, and she has assisted clients with their efforts to prepare for and comply with federal and state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act.
Speaking with Global Data Review for her “40 Under 40” profile about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected her practice over the past year, Ms. Canter said the “Covid pandemic has given rise to new workstreams, including for companies innovating around research and public health.” Looking ahead, she said, “ I’m very interested in how the pandemic has accelerated certain trends, particularly around telemedicine and digital health.” She also pointed to “the pace of legislative change in the privacy arena” as an area of concern for many companies at the moment, highlighting the regulation of sensitive data, cross-border transfers following the Schrems II case, and the lack of a unified regulatory regime between the EU and the U.S.
Global Data Review analyzes the law and regulation of the use and trade of data around the world through daily news and regular in-depth features.
