WASHINGTON—For the fourth consecutive year, The National Law Journal has named Covington to its “Pro Bono Hot List.” The law firms appearing on the 2021 Pro Bono Hot List were recognized for taking on “some of the biggest issues of our time.”
In its profile of the firm, The National Law Journal highlighted the firm’s involvement in several significant matters. One matter involved the firm partnering with civil rights organizations to oppose Trump campaign efforts to prevent the certification of unfavorable election results. Covington successfully argued that the campaign’s claims were barred by laches and did not support wholesale disenfranchisement of Pennsylvania voters. That team was led by Shankar Duraiswamy, David Zionts, Rani Gupta, and Jeff Davidson.
The profile also highlighted Covington’s pro bono work bringing Fair Housing Act suits challenging public policies perpetuating racial housing segregation. As COVID-19 spread, Covington filed compassionate release and impact cases to protect the medically vulnerable in detention, and also advised nonprofits on CARES Act relief.
