WASHINGTON—Global Competition Review has recognized Covington for its work representing Discovery in its acquisition of WarnerMedia as the “Merger Matter of the Year – Americas,” an award recognizing “creative, strategic, and innovative competition work for a client on a landmark merger control matter.” Covington has served as global antitrust, FDI, and broadcast licensing counsel on the transaction.
The $43 billion deal announced in May 2021 received unconditional antitrust clearance from the European Commission in December 2021, and the HSR waiting period in the United States expired in February 2022. It has been cleared by regulators in more than 30 jurisdictions around the world.
