LCLD Names Covington a Top Performer and Compass Award Winner
October 11, 2022
WASHINGTON—The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) has named Covington a Top Performer for the third consecutive year and a Compass Award Winner for the second consecutive year. LCLD recognizes law firms and corporations showing a strong commitment to building more diverse organizations and a more inclusive legal profession.
The Top Performer award recognizes organizations in the top 20 percent for participation in LCLD programs and activities. The Compass Award recognizes individuals and organizations that fulfill certain requirements in a calendar year including, attendance at the LCLD Annual Membership Meeting, attendance at a Leadership Summit, or submission of a Leader’s Pledge; participation in the LCLD Fellows and Pathfinder Programs; and participation in an LCLD Pipeline program.
Earlier this year, Covington pledged its commitment to the LCLD Leaders at the Front initiative. Leaders at the Front is designed to dismantle systemic barriers preventing underrepresented lawyers from achieving the highest levels of leadership within law firms and corporate legal departments. The firm also sponsored a London partner as our 2022 LCLD Fellow and a DC associate as our 2022 LCLD Pathfinder. Covington participates in the LCLD 1L Scholars Program, which increases opportunities for diverse first-year law students. We partner with LCLD to hire 1L summer associates and empower law students to work closely with Covington attorneys and a partnering client. We have participated in the program since 2018, hiring 39 Scholars.
The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity is one of the nation’s leading organizations promoting diversity and consists of more than 430 corporate chief legal officers and law firm managing partners who are dedicated to creating a diverse U.S. legal profession.
