LONDON—The Lawyer has named London international arbitration partner Jonathan Gimblett to its annual “Hot 100” list, which recognizes the most daring, innovative and creative lawyers from in-house, private practice and the Bar around the UK.
The Lawyer highlighted the instrumental role Jonathan played in instituting proceedings against Russia before the International Court of Justice just two days after Russia's unlawful invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and securing a positive provisional measures decision issued by the Court in The Hague in just a few weeks.
"Jonathan has been at the forefront of Ukraine’s legal response to the invasion," The Lawyer writes. It goes on to mention his role in an earlier ICJ case on behalf of Ukraine concerning Russia’s annexation of Crimea, involvement in Donbas and issues relating to the shooting down of passenger flight MH17. In both cases, Jonathan works alongside Washington colleagues, Marney Cheek and David Zionts.
Jonathan Gimblett joined the firm in 2004 following a successful career in the British Diplomatic Service. His international practice draws on his experience of 15 years in government, focusing principally on investor-state arbitration and public international law disputes, on which he advises both states and corporate clients. He also represents corporate clients in commercial arbitrations under a wide variety of institutional rules.
