LOS ANGELES—The Feminist Majority Foundation, publisher of Ms. magazine and one of the most iconic women's empowerment organizations, honored Covington and Covington lawyers John Hall, Julia Post, and James Garland, at its annual Global Women's Rights Courage Awards Gala in Los Angeles. The award, given "to a select few individuals who have contributed greatly to advancing the rights of women and girls around the world, and to increasing awareness of the injustices women face on account of their gender," is in tribute to Covington’s long-standing pro bono work for FMF to ensure access to safe and legal abortion, and in particular the protection of women's health clinics from extremist violence. FMF calls out their "brilliant pro bono work that has kept vital clinics open across the U.S."
The Feminist Majority Foundation, which was founded in 1987, is an organization dedicated to women’s equality, reproductive health, and non-violence. In all spheres, the Feminist Majority Foundation utilizes research and action to empower women economically, socially, and politically.
Since its founding in 1919, Covington has maintained a strong commitment to public service. The firm encourages all of its lawyers to participate in pro bono work and devotes significant resources to finding pro bono projects that reflect the diverse interests of its lawyers. Covington’s pro bono work is anchored in meeting local needs and serving economically disadvantaged individuals and families in our surrounding communities, but the firm also has a long history of serving vulnerable clients and important causes throughout the U.S. and the world.
