WASHINGTON, October 30, 2023—The National Law Journal has named Covington as its White Collar Litigation Department of the Year.
In The National Law Journal’s profile, Steve Fagell, who co-chairs the White Collar Defense and Investigations practice with Nancy Kestenbaum and Aaron Lewis, shared the firm’s approach to litigation and its strategy for building a strong track record with the DOJ and SEC. “Regulators know that Covington lawyers are honest brokers with the facts of a case and also forceful, tenacious and creative advocates,” he said. “We achieve extraordinary outcomes by bringing our experience and resources to bear for clients across the globe.”
When discussing the firm’s biggest wins of 2022, Steve outlined how Covington reached its successful outcomes in some of the highest-profile and complex matters in the country and internationally. “We had another year of precedent-setting courtroom victories, groundbreaking DOJ and SEC declinations, and headline-grabbing investigations. Matters for Stanley Black & Decker and Executive Health Resources are perfect examples,” he stated. “We guided Stanley to a very rare publicly announced declination of charges by the SEC in a matter in which a former executive was charged with violations related to perquisites. This declination was the first of its kind during President Biden’s Administration. We also represented Executive Health in an 8-1 victory at the Supreme Court in a closely watched case.”
The National Law Journal Awards recognize the top litigation work from the past year. The law firms honored "have made a remarkable difference in the legal profession - whether in shaping the law or achieving outsized results for their clients."
