Covington Trainee Alessandro Angelico Named Winner at UK's Top Pro Bono Awards
December 6, 2023
LONDON- Alessandro Angelico, a second year trainee with Covington, was named winner in the Best Contribution by a Junior Lawyer category at LawWorks Pro Bono Awards in London earlier this month.
Alessandro’s pro bono work over the past year has included assisting an Afghan judge with a refugee application for settlement in the UK, and advice to a pensioner on a disrepair claim against her landlord. Alessandro’s work and dedication to both cases ensured the individuals involved received legal representation to which they would not otherwise have had access.
Covington was also Highly Commended in the Best International Pro Bono category for the Brussels team's work on LGBTIQ+ rights before the Court of Justice of the EU with the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association-Europe, as well as in the Most Effective Pro Bono Partnership category, for the firm’s work on the Kids in Need of Defense UK project.
In total, the firm and its lawyers were shortlisted seven times at this year's awards, including four individual and three firmwide nominations.
Earlier this year, Covington was named among the top ten firms for pro bono work in the UK by Law.com International, with an impressive 94.2% of all London lawyers engaged in pro bono projects.
The annual LawWorks Pro Bono Awards celebrate the best legal pro bono activities undertaken by organisations and individuals around the UK and internationally and the positive impact they have had on those helped.
