NEW YORK—Evan Parness has joined Covington as a partner in the firm's Employment Practice Group in New York.
Evan is a trial attorney with over 15 years of experience practicing labor and employment law. He has represented clients in a range of high-stakes employment matters, from non-compete litigation, multi-million-dollar discrimination and retaliation lawsuits, founder and executive disputes, whistleblower claims, breach of contract actions, ERISA class actions, and business tort litigation. He has also pursued and defended trade secret misappropriation claims and tort litigation concerning executive malfeasance.
In addition to his litigation experience, Evan has led multiple investigations into sensitive misconduct matters, counsels on employment aspects of complex M&A deals, and guides global employers on compliance with national, state, and local employment laws and regulations and litigation avoidance measures.
"We were drawn to Evan's experience in litigating cutting-edge employment issues and his reputation as a collegial, thoughtful, and energetic colleague," said Lindsay Burke, co-chair of the firm's Employment practice group. "Evan's addition further strengthens our premier employment practice in New York at a time when our clients are facing increasingly complex employment law and workplace challenges, especially as it relates to sensitive misconduct matters where Evan's investigative experience will supplement our unique capabilities in our Institutional Culture and Social Responsibility practice."
"I was attracted to the firm's stellar reputation for high-stakes employment matters and collaborative approach to practice," said Evan. "I am excited to join Covington and partner with Lindsay Burke and Chris Bracebridge to help grow the firm's employment practice in New York and across the globe."
Evan graduated from Cornell Law School and received his undergraduate degree from Brown University. He is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the Anti-Defamation League Glass Leadership Institute and previously served on the ABA Commission for Racial and Ethnic Diversity in the Profession. Before his career in private practice, he clerked for Justice Barry T. Albin of the Supreme Court of New Jersey.
