Covington Receives Pro Bono Award From Legal Services for Children
March 15, 2024
SAN FRANCISCO—Covington was recognized by Legal Services for Children with its “Excellence in Pro Bono Service” award for using legal expertise, creativity, and empathy to change the trajectory of young people’s lives. Covington has a longstanding commitment to protecting immigrants’ rights. Last year alone, lawyers across the firm handled 190 individual immigration cases.
Covington’s pro bono immigration practice benefits from the expertise of nonprofit legal service providers who refer these important matters to us. “I had the pleasure of working with LSC on a U-visa petition for a domestic violence survivor who was helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity. LSC consistently provided steadfast support, advice, and encouragement in furtherance of my pro bono work,” notes David Lefebvre. “Working with these children has been an incredibly moving experience. We have had the opportunity to hear major stories of strength; not only from the children themselves, but through the network of social workers, community leaders, and advocates that make this work possible,” Andy Nguyen added.
Legal Services for Children, based in San Francisco, uses crucial, holistic, and free programs to serve over 1,000 Bay Area children and youth each year who aim to stabilize their lives and realize their full potential. Through a healing-centered approach, a team of attorneys, legal advocates, and social workers empower clients by actively involving them in all critical decisions. The organization provides safety and stability for children in foster care or in need of guardianship, access to educational success, protection of immigrant and refugee rights, and social-emotional health support.
