PALO ALTO—Stan Young has been selected by the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area as the 2024 recipient of the Joe Morozumi Award for Exceptional Legal Advocacy. This award is bestowed on lawyers who best exemplify Joe Morozumi, advisor to the lawyers who founded the Asian Law Caucus, and his spirit of uncompromising legal advocacy in matters of conscience on behalf of the poor and powerless.
Stan is leading Covington teams in several pending civil rights case:
- With the ACLU and MALDEF to remedy racial profiling against Latinos in Maricopa County, Arizona, where a court issued injunctive relief in 2013 and 2016 and continues to oversee the Sheriff’s Office.
- With the ACLU and the Asian Law Caucus in a class action lawsuit challenging the traffic stop, water restriction and lien policies of Siskiyou County, California, directed against Asian Americans.
- With the Justice Action Center, Innovation Law Lab and the Haitian Bridge Alliance on behalf of a large class of Haitians who were wrongfully expelled from the Del Rio Bridge in Texas in 2021 and thereby denied the ability to access asylum.
- With the ACLU of Texas and the Texas Fair Defense Project on behalf of migrants unlawfully detained for longer than permitted under Texas’ “Operation Lone Star” program.
Stan specializes in patent and trade secret litigation. He has represented companies in the telecommunications, electronics, semiconductor, software and financial services industries in all phases of intellectual property litigation around the United States.
Like Stan, Covington as a whole has demonstrated a strong commitment to public service.
