CALIFORNIA— The University of California Berkeley Law, has honored Jayni Hein, co-chair of the firm’s Carbon Management and Climate Mitigation industry group, with the 2025 Berkeley Law Environmental Leadership Award. Berkeley Law’s Ecology Law Quarterly (ELQ) and Center for Law, Energy & the Environment (CLEE) selected Jayni as this year’s honoree in recognition of her advocacy for the environment and her commitment to public service.
As the former Senior Director for Clean Energy, Infrastructure, and the National Environmental Policy Act at the White House Council for Environmental Quality (CEQ), Jayni worked to advance clean energy and infrastructure development, modernize federal permitting, and release new climate change guidance. Jayni has extensive experience advising clients on climate and environmental laws and regulations, including the Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and federal energy statutes. She draws on her significant government experience to help clients successfully advance clean energy and other infrastructure projects, including solar, semiconductor, domestic manufacturing, and carbon removal projects.
Additionally, Jayni advises companies and investors on compliance with California’s climate disclosure laws and sustainability strategy in light of increased scrutiny of corporate climate and net-zero commitments. She frequently advises on sustainability reporting, environmental marketing, and carbon accounting.
Past recipients of this award include notable figures such as Sierra Club founder David Brower and Congressmen George Miller and Jared Huffman.
