Gabriel Gates

Gabriel Gates is an associate in the firm’s Washington, DC office who helps global corporations and sovereign states navigate complex international litigation. Gabe regularly works on high-stakes treaty-based disputes, including cases representing sovereign states before the International Court of Justice and international tribunals. His practice also includes domestic litigation in the United States, with a particular focus on assisting international companies in transnational cases in U.S. courts. Gabe also has experience with enforcement of arbitral awards in the United States.

A former U.S. military intelligence officer with extensive experience overseas, Gabe regularly applies his background to assist sovereign states and international companies with cases involving complicated national security, military, and intelligence matters. He also has advised clients on international trade controls matters, including economic sanctions and export controls laws and regulations administered by the U.S. Departments of State, Commerce, and Treasury.

In his pro bono practice, Gabe works on matters involving international law, with a focus on human rights. Outside of the firm, he is a Professorial Lecturer at the George Washington University Law School.
