Richard Kingham is a senior counsel and one of the pre-eminent food and drug law practitioners in the world. He co-chairs the firm's global Life Sciences practice and formerly managed the London office and served on the firm’s Management Committee. For more than 50 years, Richard has advised most of the major pharmaceutical manufacturers and biotechnology companies in the United States, Europe, and Africa as well as trade associations such as the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), and the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA).

With extensive leadership and business experience, Richard understands his clients' businesses and unique industry challenges. He has represented pharmaceutical manufacturers in administrative proceedings, criminal prosecutions, and congressional hearings, served on multiple committees of the Institute of Medicine (now the National Academy of Medicine) and the statutory council that advises the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He also served as a member of working groups formed by nongovernmental organizations on reform of drug regulation in India and China, as well as a committee that developed recommendations to expedite development of new drugs and vaccines for diseases endemic to Africa. Richard has taught pharmaceutical law at the University of Virginia and Georgetown University, as well as universities in the UK, and served for ten years as the general editor of The Life Sciences Review, an annual publication that covers regulation of drug, biologics, and medical devices in more than 30 countries.
Richard has long been recognized as a leading life sciences lawyer in the U.S. and globally, including top ranked in Chambers Global and USA for life sciences regulatory and compliance; an inaugural inductee into the 2013 LMG Life Sciences Awards, Hall of Fame for his outstanding client service; and for other accolades from Legal 500, International Who’s Who of Life Sciences Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America, Washington, DC Super Lawyers, and the Washingtonian list of best lawyers in Washington, DC.
