    Bethan advises on all aspects of EU and UK competition law, with a focus on merger control and foreign investment review. She also regularly advises clients subject to antitrust investigations and the application of EU state aid and UK subsidy control legislation. Bethan’s practice covers a broad range of sectors with a focus on healthcare and consumer goods.

    Bethan has previously undertaken secondments in Brussels and Stockholm, as well as a client secondment to a leading UK news and entertainment public company.

    • Advised a publicly traded uranium company on its strategic partnership with a global asset management firm to acquire an American nuclear power company for USD 7.9 billion. Assisted obtain merger control and foreign investment clearances in multiple jurisdictions.
    • Advised global specialty chemicals company on the merger control aspects of its EUR 5.3 billion acquisition of a chemical constructions company (UK Phase II review with concurrent merger control reviews in the EU and globally). Co-ordination with six major regulators to align a global divestment of target’s concrete admixtures business.
    • Advised Swedish video game and media holding company on its acquisition of a leading game distributor for EUR 2.75 billion to become the largest European gaming group and in obtaining merger control and foreign investment clearances in multiple jurisdictions.
    • Advised Indian multinational conglomerate on its USD 122 million joint venture for the development of data centers in India and obtaining global merger control clearances for the same.
    • Advised leading biotech company on competition law compliance requirements for its drug development collaborations, including advice on information exchange and gun jumping.
    • Acted for a musical instruments client in the UK Competition and Market Authority’s investigation into breaches of competition law regarding resale price maintenance.
    • Advised a shipping company on its successful legal challenge to the UK Government regarding EU State aid made available to ferry companies during the coronavirus pandemic.
    • Regularly assess clients’ policies and procedures for compliance with competition laws and develop centralized best practice guidelines for business and legal teams.
    • Regularly deliver bespoke competition law training to clients’ business and legal teams and translate complex regulatory developments into practical advice.
